Problem Note 44703: Errors opening database views in SAS® Enterprise Guide® or other SAS® client applications
When opening a database view through the META Library Engine, SAS® Enterprise Guide® might issue the message:
SAS Enterprise Guide cannot open the data file: "library-name.dbview-name".
Error opening data "dbview-name".
Similarly, accessing the view through the META Library Engine using SAS® programming steps or other SAS client applications might produce errors such as:
ERROR: File LIBREF.VIEW-NAME.DATA does not exist.
ERROR: The metadata for the table/view LIBREF.DBVIEW-NAME does not exist.
or
ERROR: File LIBREF.db-view-name.VIEW cannot be opened because files of type VIEW are not supported in the LIBREF library.
The problem occurs when these conditions are true:
- hot fix B04007 is installed
- the view is a database view, such as with an Oracle or Teradata database
- the view is registered using SAS® Management Console or SAS® Data Integration Studio
- the view is accessed via the META Library Engine
There are several circumventions to this problem. Select the approach most suitable to your environment and business rules:
- Mark the library as pre-assigned in metadata. This will allocate the library at server-startup and will use the native database engine. Do this from within the SAS Management Console ► Data Library Manager ► Libraries.
- Right-mouse-click the library from the navigation view and select Properties.
- Select the Options tab and then the Advanced Options button.
- Check the Library is pre-assigned checkbox.
- Click OK to save the changes.
- Modify the Advanced properties for the table object in the SAS® Metadata Repository. Do this from within the SAS Management Console ► Data Library Manager ► Libraries.
- Select the library containing the database view.
- Right-mouse-click the view and select Properties, then the Advanced tab.
- Set IsDBMSView to 0 and set MemberType to DATA by over-typing the existing values and hitting Enter.
- Click OK to save the changes.
- Use PROC METALIB to register the view(s).
